SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is holding the second day of the 189th Semiannual General Conference Sunday.

The conference started on Saturday, with messages about changes to the youth program, and the announcement of 8 new temples.

We will update this blog throughout the conference.

Sunday afternoon session

President Russell M. Nelson continued his fervent focus on improving the faith’s temple worship Sunday at the concluding session of the 189th Semiannual General Conference. He read an updated list of questions Church members will be asked when receiving a temple recommend.

Temple recommend questions have been periodically clarified or adjusted to meet the needs and circumstances of God’s children. These current updates clarify, but do not change, worthiness requirements to enter a temple. -Daniel Woodruff, Church spokesman.

Sunday morning

Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles opened the conference. He was followed by Cristina F. Franco, 2nd Counselor in the Primary Presidency, and Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

They were followed by Elder Walter F. Gonzalez of the Quorum of the Seventy, and Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

President Russell M. Nelson concluded the morning session of conference. He spoke about ways the members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are involved in charity work.

Sunday afternoon

President Henry B. Eyering, Second Counselor in the First Presidency, was the first speaker of the Sunday afternoon session. He was followed by Elder Hans T. Boom of the Quorum of the Seventy, President M. Russell Ballard, Elder Peter M. Johnson of the Quorum of the Seventy, Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, and Elder Neil L. Anderson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

President Russell M. Nelson concluded the Sunday session of conference. “We have 166 dedicated temples, and more are coming,” Nelson said. He encouraged members to be prepared to answer questions of friends who might be interested in learning more about the temple. Nelson said some of the temple recommend questions have recently been edited for clarity. The questions will be distributed Monday.

Nelson also asked members to prepare for the next General Conference in April as the bicentennial year of Joseph Smith’s First Vision.

“In the springtime of the year 2020, it will be exactly 200 years since Joseph Smith experienced the theophany that we know as the first vision,” he said.

He encouraged people to use the next six months to prepare for a unique conference, and encouraged them to read the account of the First Vision, and to utilize the new Book of Mormon videos for study as a family.
