Arrest Made As Authorities Investigate Mexico Massacre

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Mexican authorities on Tuesday posted to a state Facebook page that a person has been arrested as they continue an investigation into an ambush that killed nine U.S. citizens.
The Agency for Criminal Investigation for the state of Sonora posted that it had arrested a person and rescued two others who were found bound and gagged. The suspect was also in possession of assault rifles and ammunition, according to the post.
It’s still unclear if the suspect authorities arrested is connected to the ambush.
According to a report from the Associated Press, Mexican officials said the attackers may have mistaken the group’s large SUVs for those of a rival gang.
“Those who attacked the occupants (of the vehicles), they let the children go, so that we can deduce that it was not a targeted attack” against the families, said army chief of staff Gen. Hector Mendoza.

Five wounded children were flown to the United States where they were then transported to hospitals in Arizona, authorities said. Three children who were not wounded are in the care of family members in northern Mexico.
