Giving Tuesday: Top 3 Most Charitable Cities In Nation Are In Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Of all the cities in the United States, the top three most charitable are all in Utah, according to a recent study.
According to SmartAsset, the Provo-Orem area, Ogden-Clearfield area and Salt Lake City topped the list of places where Americans give most to charity.
The Provo-Orem metro sits at the top with 6.91% charitable contributions as a percentage of income. The cities had an average charitable contribution rate of $13,125, according to the study.
In Ogden-Clearfield, people gave an average of 4.71% of their income to charity. Residents there donated an average of $9,219.
Salt Lake City rounded out the top three with 4.09% of income donated to charitable causes. Residents there donated an average $9,274.
Utah overall also topped the list as the state with the highest volunteer rate. According to the report, 51% of Utahns donated their time to a charitable cause.
Also in the Top 10 were Charlottesville, Virginia; Raleigh, North Carolina; Boise, Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia spanning North Carolina and South Carolina; and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The study used charitable contribution data from the IRS and volunteer information from NationalService.gov.
