SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Volunteers, including Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall and members of the Salt Lake City Police and Fire departments, helped package 432 boxes of food during the city’s 18th annual day of service with the Utah Food Bank.
The event took place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which was designated as a national day of service by Congress 25 years ago, according to the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Officials said the boxes will go to homebound seniors across Utah.

What a great opportunity to serve at the @utahfoodbank this morning – packaging meals for our neighbors. We were able to prepare over 400 boxes of food. That was just one of many things our group from #SLC did to help out today. @slcpd @slcmayor @SLCPDOutreach #MLK2020 pic.twitter.com/rJsmhmD6NQ
