SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The next round of winter weather is expected right in the middle Presidents Day Weekend.

The storm will bring snow to the mountains and rain to the valleys in northern Utah beginning Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Luckily, it won’t be as drastic as some of the recent bouts of snow the area has seen.

Presidents Day Weekend

“If you don’t like shoveling snow in the valleys, you’re probably going to like this storm,” said KSL meteorologist Kevin Eubank.

Some valley areas could see brief snow as the temperatures dip, he said, but those accumulations will likely be less than an inch. The rain is expected to continue throughout the day Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, mountain areas will get snow accumulation from between 2 – 3 inches in the Logan area up to 12 – 18 inches in Alta.

The NWS issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the western two-thirds of Utah and southwest Wyoming.

“Accumulating snow is expected across the higher terrain of northern Utah (Saturday),” according to the NWS. “Snow will likely spread into valley locations north of I-84 with minor accumulation possible.”

The Upcoming Week

“Accumulating snow will continue across the mountains of northern Utah throughout the day Sunday and may impact travel along mountain routes,” according to the NWS. “Snow in the northern valleys is expected to change over to rain by afternoon as warmer air temporarily spreads into the area.”

The storm will move out of the valleys by early Monday, although the lower temperatures will remain. Sunday’s highs will be in the mid-40s for people along the Wasatch Front. A cold front will then move in, pushing the highs into the 30s, where they’ll remain through Wednesday.

Those highs will be back into the 40s Thursday and Friday, according to KSL Weather.

Residents in the southern end of the state won’t see precipitation over Presidents Day Weekend, but they will see cooler temperatures. While the high on Sunday will be 64 degrees, that drops to 58 degrees on Monday. Tuesday, that high dips again to 54. It will climb back up to 59 by Friday.
