Census Workers Hitting Streets Again, Leaving Packets At Front Door

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Officials with the U.S. Census Bureau said workers will begin again the process of hand delivery for 2020 census questionnaires to Utah households.
The Census stopped all fieldwork March 18 because of stay at home restrictions due to the coronavirus. They had only started that work three days earlier.
A news release says crews will be working in areas this month where most homes do not get mail at a physical address.
The release says workers will deliver more than 88,000 Census questionnaires to Utah households.
The Census calls the operation contactless. Still, the crews will observe all social distancing recommendations and wear personal protective gear for their safety as well as safety of the general public.
The Census wants people to respond quickly and make sure people include the ID number that is in the packet. People can respond online, by phone and mail using the included form.
A news release says a ton of money is on the line making it “crucial to ensure a complete and accurate count of all communities, which helps guide hundreds of billions of dollars in public and private sector spending per year”.
