Fool Creek, Leamington Evacuation Orders Lifted Following Canal Fire

OAK CITY, Utah — Fire officials have lifted evacuation orders in the Fool Creek and Leamington areas following a resurgence of the Canal Fire in Millard County.
U.S. Highway 132 was also closed but has since reopened.
The flames reached 450 acres and was 100% contained Saturday, but strong winds Sunday afternoon caused the fire to break containment and threaten nearby homes.

Tens of thousands of acres were burned as firefighters battled “extreme fire behavior,” according to Utah Fire.
Officials said no aircraft and poor visibility made assessment difficult.
The fire has reportedly reached 30,000 acres and was 0% contained as of 10:00 a.m. Monday.

The fire broke out around 4:00 p.m. Friday and was reportedly caused by lightening.
Local and federal resources responded as structures and power lines were threatened.
Officials said outbuildings were lost in the fire.
On Sunday, FEMA authorized the use of federal funds to help with firefighting costs related to the Canal Fire and Knolls Fire.
