YUBA CITY, Calif. — A small groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Feather River California Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Yuba City.
Officials said attendance was limited Saturday due to current COVID-19 guidelines.
Elder Paul H. Watkins, an Area Seventy for the Church, presided at the ceremony and offered the dedicatory prayer.
The Feather River California Temple was first announced by Church President Russell M. Nelson in the October 2018 General Conference. It will be the eighth temple in California following Fresno, Los Angeles, Newport Beach, Oakland, Redlands, Sacramento and San Diego Temples.
Plans show the building will be 38,000 square feet and built at 1470 Butte House Road. It will stand on the same ground as the recently razed Yuba City California Stake Center, and will have a new meetinghouse and distribution center next to it.
Officials said a video of the groundbreaking ceremony will be released in the coming days.
