Widow Of Driver Killed In Severe Windstorm: ‘Somebody Dropped The Ball’

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah – Police have identified the man who was fatally injured in Tuesday’s destructive windstorm.
Donald Hardy, 61, was a commercial truck driver and was killed when a strong gust of wind blew his cab door into his face, knocking him to the ground.
Police said Hardy was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead from head trauma. His wife, Alissa Joy Hardy, was in the truck cab at the time and witnessed the incident.
She said the two were in Utah dropping off cargo. The couple had sold everything they owned to drive across America and join the trucking industry – something they’ve been doing for the past 15 months.
Alissa Joy said the incident could have been prevented, but Donald didn’t receive a warning about the severe winds.
“Somebody dropped the ball,” she said. “None of this should have happened. None of those trucks – none of that should have happened.”
Multiple injuries were reported, and dozens of semi-trucks were tipped over in the hurricane-force gusts.
Alissa Joy said she is trying to find a way to pay for expenses to pay for Donald’s cremation, and she said she’s not leaving Utah without him.
She plans to take his ashes to the ocean, something she said Donald always wanted.
