SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Everyone who plans on going to college or sending a child to college should fill out the The Free Application for Federal Student Aid immediately.
Students used to wait until spring to submit their FAFSA applications, but time is of the essence this year.
Ashley Boucher with Sallie Mae said that “the biggest reason families don’t file is that they don’t think they qualify.”
She noted that nearly all those who file will qualify for some amount of federal aid. However, some of that aid is first come, first served.
According to Sallie Mae, two years ago, 83% of parents and students filed for aid. Last year, that number dropped to 71%.
It’s crucial not to put off applying, especially since there’s $150 billion up for grabs in grants, scholarships and loans.
To start your application, go to studentaid.gov and submit your bank statements, W-2, 2019 tax information, Social Security number and driver license number.
