PARK CITY, Utah – An AMBER Alert for a 6-year-old girl who was abducted in Park City has been canceled, according to officials with the Utah Department of Public Safety.

Summit County Sheriff Justin Martinez said Mark Delgado has been taken into custody in Taylorsville and 6-year-old Chanzi Delgado was safely located.

Police said Mark Delgado is Chanzi’s estranged father, and he intentionally took her from her mother after requesting to get back together to work out their relationship.

“Mr. Delgado went to South Dakota four days ago and brought the child and mother to a friend’s residence in Summit County to reconcile their relationship,” police said.

Martinez said Delgado left with Chanzi at 8 a.m. Tuesday to run errands but did not return.

“The child’s mother received a Facebook message from Mr. Delgado where he stated he was taking the child to Los Angeles out of retribution for making him suffer not seeing their child for the past four years,” Martinez said.

Police added Chanzi’s “grandmother was awarded temporary custody of Chanzi in August 2019. Mr. Delgado does not have legal custody of the child.”

Officials with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said Delgado was driving a black GMC Yukon. Witnesses in the Kearns area reported the vehicle to police shortly after the AMBER Alert was issued, according to Sgt. Melody Cutler with the Unified Police Department.

Cutler said a Taylorsville officer found the Yukon abandoned at a car wash near 4000 West and 5400 South, and witnesses told police people in the Yukon had gotten onto a Utah Transit Authority bus. UPD officers were able to locate the bus and three adults were taken into custody.

Cutler said they were not sure to what extent the other two individuals were involved in the incident.

Lt. Andrew Wright with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said Delgado will be booked into the Summit County Jail.
