PROVO, Utah – The Humane Society of Utah has doubled the reward for information leading to an arrest after two cats were shot by blow darts in Provo last month.
The Humane Society said it will match a $2,000 reward already offered by the Utah Animal Rights Coalition.
“UARC is offering a reward of $2,000, from its Brian M. Barnard Memorial Fund, for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for these hideous crimes,” said Rachel Heatley, Humane Society of Utah advocacy director. “We are matching this reward as an additional incentive for someone to come forward.”
The cats were found in the area of the Utah Lake State Park.
The first cat was found on September 22 with a dart in its head. The cat’s left eye was removed.
The second was discovered on September 30 with a dart through its torso and leg. It’s left front leg was amputated.
Both are expected to survive.
A news release from the Humane Society said investigators believe the cats were shot with the same type of dart, which means the same person is responsible for both incidents.
Investigators said the animals were likely feral and animal control officers removed several other feral cats from the area.
Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact Michelle Proctor, Provo animal control officer, at mproctor@provo.org.
