MORGAN, Utah — Utah Gov. Spencer Cox marked the accomplishments of his first 100 days in office, celebrating with faculty and students at Morgan Elementary School and Morgan High School.
During the event Wednesday, Gov. Cox shared a candid, surprising story that many students will likely remember.
Utah’s future is bright because of these students.
Huge thanks to them, the faculty and the staff at Morgan Elementary and Morgan High for such a warm welcome and for helping us celebrate our first 100 days.

Cox started his campaign for governor in the city of Morgan and returned to tout his top accomplishment, 100 days in.
“When I first took office, I said the only thing that matters right now is vaccine distribution,” he said. “That was our top 10 priorities, especially coming out of the pandemic.”
Right behind vaccines, education funding topped the list, with a focus on equity.
“There are kids who are struggling and we can’t leave them behind,” said Gov. Cox.
The lieutenant governor and first lady praised students at Morgan High for the way look out for one another.
“You guys are the generation that is going to show us a better way,” said first lady Abby Cox. “You’re more empathetic, you’re more connected, you’re more in tune with each other and that is what is going to reduce suicide.”
The importance of that became evident when the governor made a surprisingly candid admission to students, that at their age, he contemplated suicide.
“As I think back to those seats where you are now and think about what could have happened and what did happen, I’m so grateful that I chose to stay,” he said. “I want you to know that we love you, that there are people fighting for you and that we need you to stay.”
It was a memorable moment for those students and a cue about an effort Utahns may likely hear more about in the next 100 days.
