Navajo Police Cancel AMBER Alert After Two Children Found

UPDATE: DOLORES, Colo. — Officials with the Navajo Division of Public Safety said missing children Bailey and Braidin Begay were successfully located unharmed around 2 a.m. Friday in a remote area south of Dolores, Colorado.

Colorado authorities arrested the children’s father, Brandon Begay, without incident. The children were united with their mother and family in Cortez, Colorado.

“We want to thank our county, state, local, and federal law enforcement partners in Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico, as well as our own Navajo Division of Public Safety partners, for working together and collectively pulling together resources that lead to the successful outcome of this incident.” Chief Francisco said, “I want to also express my appreciation to Montezuma County Sheriff Steven Nowlin and his deputies for their partnership and determination in finding Baily and Braidin. We are grateful the children were found safe and have been united with their family.”


ANETH, Utah – The Navajo Division of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help locating a suspect and two children in an AMBER Alert.

Bailey and Braidin Begay, 16 months and 3 months old are missing Thursday evening.

Police have named Brandon Begay the suspect and provided his vehicle description. He drives a brown over white 2005 Ford F250 with an extended cab truck and temporary Arizona plates. Police say Brandon Begay, the father, has reportedly made threats of self-harm and the children are believed to be in danger.

Both children have brown eyes and black hair, according to police descriptions. Bailey is 2 feet and 25 pounds and was last seen wearing blue jeans and a spaghetti strap shirt. Braidin is 1 foot and about 12 pounds.

Begay and the children could be headed towards Cortez, Colorado; Moab, Utah; Telluride, Colorado; or the Delores, Colorado, mountain region.

Police are asking anyone with information on their whereabouts to please call the Navajo Police Department, Shiprock district by calling 505-368-1350 or by dialing 911.
