SEVIER COUNTY, Utah — Two grandparents sustained multiple stab wounds after they were both attacked by their grandson, according to the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Nathan J. Curtis with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a statement that the Richfield Communications center received a 911 call just after 11:30 p.m. Thursday from a woman who reported a double stabbing and shooting had occurred in Central Valley.

“The caller was in obvious panic as she reported her husband was being stabbed by her grandson. Right after the call, the caller was attacked by the same individual,” read the statement.

As the woman was being stabbed, Curtis said the first stabbing victim, her husband, grabbed a handgun and shot the attacking grandson multiple times. That allowed the victims to escape their residence and drive to the neighbors house, where they called 911 again to report the shooting and their location.

Curtis said neighbors administered first aid to 78-year-old Charles Evans and 75-year-old Margo Evans before first responders arrived on scene.

Sevier County Sheriff’s deputies were then sent to the home where the shooting and stabbing occurred. When deputies arrived, they found the suspect, 28-year-old Wade Evans, “in the home covered in blood.”

“Wade still had a knife in his hand when he approached the deputies,” read the statement.

Curtis said Wade dropped the knife after deputies ordered him to. He was then taken into custody and transported to the hospital to receive treatment for his wounds.

Charles and Margo sustained multiple stab and defensive wounds during the incident, according to police. The couple was transported to hospitals along the Wasatch Front.

“The injuries were serious and needed advanced medical care,” read the release. “At this time, they appear to be in critical, but stable, condition.”

Wade is currently under medical care for his injuries. Police said he’s also in serious but stable condition.

The incident remains under investigation.
