Residents told to shelter in place after multiple shots fired in Millcreek

MILLCREEK, Utah — Officers with the Unified Police Department are responding to a SWAT situation in Millcreek.

They were called out to the area of 3900 South and Highland Drive around 5:30 p.m. Friday after receiving reports of shots being fired.

Police later confirmed someone was visiting a home in the area when the shots went off.

That person then ran next door to a police station, officials said, and asked for help.

When officers arrived on scene, they heard additional gunshots.

Since that time, SWAT team members have come out, along with a massive police presence — more than 70 officers.

At one point, police said officers extracted an elderly woman inside the residence, while coming under fire.

“We had officers, who put their own life in peril, to go in to rescue someone — thinking nothing of themselves, or their lives, or their families,” said Lt. Shane Manwaring with the Unified Police Department. “They went in and rescued someone, and that’s heroic and that was incredible bravery on their part.”

They said she suffered some injuries, but they were more due to age than the situation.

Meanwhile, people in the area have been asked to shelter in place.

Police said negotiators have been in contact with the shooter, but nothing has been resolved as of 10 p.m.
