Rain, snow impacting morning commutes across northern Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — Storms continued to drop heavy rain and snow across the Wasatch Front Tuesday morning, leading to ponding and winter driving conditions.
KSL meteorologist Grant Weyman said rain would continue to fall across northern Utah valleys through the early afternoon, and higher elevations would continue to see snow.

Parts of the Cottonwood canyons received up to 10″ of snow overnight, and the Salt Lake City airport saw over a half-inch of rain fall between midnight and 6 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Ogden’s airport saw nearly 1″ of rain over the same time period, and Pleasant Grove saw 0.67″.

Several crashes were reported on Utah’s interstates, and KSL’s Haley Smith recommended drivers plan on adding 15-to-20 minutes to their morning commutes to deal with ponding, slowdowns and crashes.

Thousands in Salt Lake County lost power Tuesday morning, but Rocky Mountain Power crews said all outages were resolved by 5:18 a.m.
