SPRINGVILLE, Utah — A buck deer that was killed and left to waste in Sanpete County is being investigated by Utah Division of Wildlife Resources conservation officers. They are seeking information on the matter, where only the deer’s antlers were removed.
A tip on Jan. 4 led DWR conservation officers to the discovery near Clarion Road between the Barex Dairy Family Farm and the Redmond Salt Mine. The location is approximately 3 miles north of the Sanpete-Sevier County line. The early investigation suggests “the deer had been shot and killed at a different location and then was transported by vehicle to the area where it was later found.”
Officers determined the deer was killed late on Jan. 3 or early on Jan. 4. A blanket was found nearby and it is believed it was used in the incident. The DWR encourages anyone with information — or any other wildlife-related crimes in Utah — to report it to conservation officers. There are four ways to do:
- The UTiP Hotline at 800-662-3337
- The UTDWR Law Enforcement app
- By texting 847411
- Online through the DWR website
Rewards are available, and requests for confidentiality are respected. The DWR confirmed 1,153 animals were illegally killed in 2021, valued at more than $610,000.
