The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donates $4 million to help European refugees

SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has donated $4 million to help those displaced by the ongoing war in Europe.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the World Food Programme each received $2 million.
That money, according to a UNHCR official, will be used for core relief items such as blankets, solar lanterns, tents and shelters, and will help an estimated 40,000 families.
“This is going to go to those in need on the ground in Ukraine and neighboring countries right away,” said Lacey Stone, USA for UNHCR’s director of private sector engagement and partnerships. “Latter-day Saint Charities has been providing relief and comfort to refugees for decades. And we just want to say how grateful and appreciative we are.”
The $2 million donation to WFP will help the organization provide food for some 11,000 people for four months.
