SPRINGVILLE, Utah— A man has been arrested after allegedly driving under the influence, intentionally hitting another car and fleeing in an apparent road rage incident.

Court documents identify the man as Edward James Haisten.

A hit and run was reported by a driver of a Toyota Tundra who claimed he had been involved in a road rage incident with Haisten on state route 51 in south Springville. Following the accident, “he noticed Haisten was still following him.”

Court documents state, “He pulled his truck over on 100 East, north of 200 South, and exited his vehicle. When he saw Haisten driving toward him, he walked toward Haisten’s vehicle, thinking Haisten was going to stop. Haisten did not stop and the Toyota driver was struck by Haisten’s vehicle. Haisten’s windshield was broken as a result of the collision, and Haisten fled the scene driving north on 100 East, turning right (east) on Center Street.”

Officers were able to locate Haisten heading east and make contact with him. He “had the odor of an alcoholic beverage” and “he related to officers that he was trying to swerve around the Toyota driver when the Toyota driver struck his windshield. ”

Haisten was transported to the Springville Police Department where he took a field sobriety test and chemical breath test and admitted to consuming alcohol before driving. ” His chemical breath test had results of .210 BAC.

According to court documents, a criminal history check for Haisten revealed more than two DUI convictions within the past ten years. A driver license check for Haisten revealed that his driving privilege is revoked for alcohol offense, and he is required to have an ignition interlock device in any vehicle he is driving. The vehicle he was driving, which belongs to his mother, did not contain an ignition interlock device.”

Haisten faces charges of driving under the influence with prior convictions, interlock restricted driver driving without device, alcohol restricted driver driving with alcohol in system, aggravated assault with force/violence, driving on revoked license, and reckless driving.
