Southern Utah Representative resigns from position in Utah Legislature

SALT LAKE CITY — Rep. Travis Seegmiller of the Utah House of Representatives has announced his resignation Tuesday effective July 1, 2022.
According to a release, “Seegmiller and his family plan to move outside the boundaries of his current district, requiring the representative to forgo his elected position and withdraw from his current election.”

The representative was appointed in February of 2018.
Seegmiller recently entered a plea of abeyance after shooting and killing a deer out of season on private property.
According to the St. George News the original charges included, “one count each of take-transfer-sell-purchase protected wildlife, discharge of a firearm without permission and within 600 feet of a dwelling and discharge of a firearm from a vehicle.”
There was no House ethics investigation into the poaching case.

Speaker Brad Wilson made the following statement, “We monitored the situation closely and let the legal process play out. Many members were troubled by the accusations and had discussions about options in the wake of his plea agreement. However, because of Rep. Seegmiller’s resignation announced this morning there is no current plan to pursue this further.”
