Police: Pipe bomb safely detonated outside South Salt Lake Raising Cane’s

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah — Police say a pipe bomb was safely detonated after it was found outside a Raising Cane’s restaurant.

Danielle Croyle, public information officer for the South Salt Lake Police Department, confirmed the explosive device was found Tuesday afternoon.

State Street was closed at 2100 South and the restaurant was evacuated before the Unified Fire Authority’s bomb team responded to the scene.

State Street has since reopened while the Raising Cane’s remains closed.

Croyle said no threats were received but they took “the item located as a serious concern.” No injuries were reported during the response and detonation.

The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information was asked to call police at 801-840-4000.

The Raising Cane’s is located near the area where a man was found dead in a roadway after gunshots were heard late Monday night; Croyle called the proximity a coincidence.
