SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake City police recovered a reported stolen car on Monday.

According to their press release, officers with Liberty Bike Squad noticed the stolen car parked with a 30-year-old man near 1900 West North Temple.

When officers approached the man, he refused to cooperate with police and attempted to drive away.

Officers were able to turn off the car, but the man turned the car into neutral and caused the stolen car to hit a police car.

Police were able to take the driver into custody without further incident.

The 30-year-old was booked for:

  • theft by receiving stolen property,
  • failure to stop at the command of a police officer,
  • interfering with an arresting officer,
  • use or possession of drug paraphernalia,
  • false evidence of a vehicle title and registration,
  • giving false information to a police officer
  • and having an open container in a vehicle.

The car had open containers of alcohol and drug paraphernalia. A license plate was also partially cut up, overlaid, and glued on top of another license plate to fake a different plate.

The inside of the car was heavily damaged and dirty, according to police.

  • Park in areas that are well-lit and have working video security cameras.
  • If able, invest in a vehicle immobilization system and vehicle recovery system.
  • Take clear photos of your vehicle, VIN, and license plate.
  • Immediately report your vehicle stolen by calling 9-1-1 if you witnessed it being stolen or 801-799-3000 if it happened outside your presence or there was a time delay.
