6 people displaced by early morning house fire in Ogden; Red Cross assisting

OGDEN, Utah — The fire alarm sounded in Ogden early Tuesday morning as a fire broke out in a building.

Several people were inside the home — located on the 2200 block of Jefferson Avenue — at the time of the fire.

Michele Fuller was one of the six people that made it out of the building safely.

“I woke up. I saw nothing but smoke in our house,” Fuller said.

She said it was only moments before seeing smoke turned into seeing flames.

“All of a sudden, the house just went up in flames,” Fuller said.

Coming out with the clothes on her back, this was a first for her in the last nine years since living there.

She said thankfully, she, her mom, and neighbors were all able to get out safely, but that may not be the case for her pets.

“We had five cats and two dogs, and I think I lost them all,” Fuller said.

Deputy Fire Chief Mike Slater of the Ogden City Fire Department said, “We didn’t see ‘em, so hopefully they got out before we got there.”

A couple who lives in a detached building out back saw the fire spread.

“We saw the whole top collapse, catch on fire. They told us to get out of the home as fast as we could,” said Trentton Martinez.

Slater said a call came in around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday. The caller said smoke was piling up in the building.

Before their 21 firefighters and neighboring crew could get there, he said the fire had made its way from the basement to the attic.

He said getting to the attic presented a challenge.

“The roof is built over, so there’s a roof underneath the roof. For access to the attic, we had to go through an additional roof,” Slater said.

Early into the investigation, Ogden Fire said the neighboring homes, including the detached building out back, weren’t affected.

Hearts are a different story.

“I’m hoping there’s a miracle with my pets. The way the flames were in the house, I just don’t know,” Fuller said.

The fire department said the Red Cross will be coming to help out the families and tenants who live in the building.
