SALT LAKE CITY — In the unlikely event of a zombie outbreak, Salt Lake City is the second best city to survive the living dead, according to a blog.

The lawn care blog, Lawn Love compared the U.S.’s largest 200 cities based on 26 key indicators of zombie invasion-preparedness, like living population health, access to “bunkers,” hunting-gear stores, and supermarkets.

Salt Lake City placed high in most ranks, earning second in “protection” and eighth in “available supplies.” However, the city is 70th in “hideouts,” 54th in “vulnerability, and 19th in “mobility.”

Meanwhile, Utah’s neighboring state of Nevada holds five of the ten worst cities for surviving the zombie outbreak. Sunrise Manor, Nevada; Paradise, Nevada; Enterprise, Nevada; Spring Valley, Nevada; Paterson take the top four spots, with North Las Vegas, Nevada placing tenth.

If Salt Lake City falls to the zombies because of our unprepared neighbors, Lawn Love cites the fifth-best city Colorado Springs, Colorado, and tenth best city of Boise, Idaho, as good alternatives.

And the city that beat Salt Lake City for that number one ranking? Orlando, Flordia, as it placed number one in supplies and protection ranks, 16th in vulnerability, 53rd in mobility, and 109th in hideouts.

Lawn Love measured each rank with several metrics. For example, the vulnerability rank measures each city by its population density, physical inactivity rate, the share of the population in bad health, military base access, natural hazards index, and hospitals per Capita.

The blog was inspired by the 2011 CDC blog post, “Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse,” where the CDC gives suggestions on how to survive the outbreak.
