Highland High School makes sure all students can participate in homecoming dance Saturday

SALT LAKE CITY — Highland High School’s annual homecoming dance on September 24 will be free for students, with food, transportation, refreshments, and over 100 dresses and suits provided by the local community.
Chick-fil-A will provide dinner for students, the schools PTA will provide refreshments, Salt Lake City School District will provide buses throughout SLC neighborhoods where students live, and several dresses and suits were donated to make sure each student could feel confident at the dance.
Melinda Smith, family and school collaboration specialist Melinda Smith said the amenities will make the tradition enjoyable for all students.
“Highland High, along with the Salt Lake City School District, are committed to removing barriers for students and to creating an equitable education for all,” Smith said.
Chick-fil-A in Sugarhouse donated 1,000 8-piece chicken nuggets for students dinner. Owner Eric Champeau said it has been a “pleasure” to partner with Highland High School.
“We’ve worked with Highland High School in many different ways over the years. A few years ago, I met with Mindy and learned some of the amazing things she has been able to accomplish in order to assist the students and their families,” Champeau said.
