Utah-based nonprofit organization for Ukraine shares need for cold weather clothing

DAVIS COUNTY, Utah — Months have gone by since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the Ukrainian flag still flies at Jason Stout’s home in Utah.

“The war is still happening, and we can’t forget about it,” Stout said.

While Stout is from Utah, his wife was born in Ukraine, and their children have spent years living there.

Since the war broke out earlier this year, they and other volunteers have worked tirelessly with the Responsibility Foundation, a nonprofit organization based here in Utah.

What started with raising money with friends and family has now grown to over $100,000 for food, medicine and other necessities.

But Stout said that money is like a drop in the bucket as you look at what’s still going on in Ukraine.

That’s why he said they’ve moved into raising money to help buy Ukrainian soldiers and civilians protective gear as well as cold-weather clothing.

“If the Russians don’t kill them, cold will, and so we need to send them everything from blankets to sleeping bags to more protective gear to first aid kits,” Stout said.

He said an overwhelming number of soldiers on the front lines are everyday people, including software developers, taxi drivers and moms and dads.

With that in mind, he said, every dollar that goes to them is used to get them back home safely to their families.

“Every dollar that we help with will literally save more lives, not just the soldiers on the front line but the civilians depending on them,” Stout explained.

The Responsibility Foundation is gearing up for a shipment of donations to go out in November.

Stout said those they are helping in Ukraine would be appreciative of any kind of gently used or new cold-weather clothing, including thermals, socks, and coats.

To donate and find out more about Responsibility Foundation, you’re encouraged to visit the group’s website or visit its page on Facebook.
