Flight operations resume at Hill AFB following last week’s F-35 crash

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah — A spokesman for Hill Air Force Base has confirmed that flight operations resumed Tuesday.
All flights were suspended following the crash of a Hill AFB F-35 last week.
The jet slammed into a runway Wednesday. The pilot ejected and was released from a hospital shortly after the crash.
“The F-35A Lightning II mission at Hill AFB is vital to national defense, and resuming our training is crucial to that mission. The safety of our people and the surrounding communities is our foremost concern,” The 388th Fighter Wing tweeted Tuesday. “Our maintainers and pilots do a great job, and we have an entire organization of safety professionals dedicated to the task. We’re confident in the ability of our Airmen and this wing to carry out our mission safely as we move forward.”
The 388th and 419th Fighter Wings resumed local F-35A flying operations at Hill Air Force Base today. At this point, there is no indication of any additional risk to flying operations after last week's crash.

The Air Force wants to protect the technology that makes the F-35 one of the most advanced fighters ever.

An interim safety board has been investigating the crash but has not released any information about what caused the $80 million jet to crash.
