Breeze Airways starts flights from Provo to Orange County and Orlando

PROVO, Utah — Disney lovers now have another travel option out of Provo as Breeze Airways introduced a new nonstop flight from Provo to Orange County, California, and a one-stop flight from Provo to Orlando.

Breeze will start the flights to Orange County’s John Wayne Airport and Orlando International Airport on Feb. 16.

Select tickets start at $39 for Orange County flights and $61 for Orlando flights, according to Breeze’s website.

“The addition of Orange County today marks our 34th destination nationally — and seventh from Provo — as well as our 100th nonstop route overall,” said Tom Doxey, Breeze Airways president. “I can’t think of a better way to commemorate this milestone than for the ‘nicest airline’ to connect two of the ‘happiest places on Earth’ while also giving our Provo guests an epic daytrip option from their house to the ‘house of the mouse’ in Orange County.”

Flying out of Provo

Breeze Airways opened its Provo operations with daily flights to Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles and one-stop flights to New York/Westchester and San Bernadino, California.

Breeze has since added flights to Connecticut and South Carolina and started flying to Phoenix on Nov. 19.

Breeze was the second airline to serve Provo, joining Allegiant Air, which opened a four-aircraft, $95 million base at the airport later in November.

Allegiant began flying out of Provo in 2013 and currently offers 15 routes to destinations in California, Oregon, Arizona, Nevada, Texas and Florida.

Provo recently opened its new $55 million terminal, which features four gates with the possibility of expanding to 10 gates in the future.

“The forward-looking terminal design not only provides more gates and destinations; it is designed to enhance the travel experience from curb to flight,” said Brian Torgersen, interim Provo Airport manager. “Quick gate access and short lines reduce travel hassle; additions of baggage carousels, jetway and rental cars increase travel convenience.”

Now, the city is considering another airport expansion as more airlines consider adding routes to and from Provo.

“Most of the airports throughout the country have actually declined by substantial amounts; we’ve actually grown 125%,” Torgersen said.

Initial estimates for further expansion are in the $62 million range, and city leaders are looking for federal funding to help with those costs.
