More US beef is being recalled.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The United States Department of Agriculture on Thursday announced more than 6 million pounds of JBS Tolleson, Inc., raw beef is being recalled following reports of salmonella.

The raw, non-intact beef items, including ground beef, were packaged on various dates from July 26 to Sept. 7, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service media release. The products include the establishment number “EST. 267” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The products were reportedly shipped to stores nationwide.

An investigation has identified 57 cases from 16 states will illness onset dates ranging from Aug. 5 – Sept. 6.

“FSIS will continue to work with public health partners and will provide updated information should it become available,” according to the release.

Consumers should check any frozen beef against the product recall list, which is extensive. Find the product list here.

“FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers,” according to the release. “Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

The agency is currently working to make certain the product is no longer available to consumers. A retail distribution list will be posted to the FSIS website when it’s available.

“Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses,” according to the FSIS site. “The most common symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating the contaminated product.”

The illness can last up to seven days, and most people recover without treatment. However, some people may experience severe diarrhea that could require hospitalization.

“Older adults, infants, and persons with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness,” the site states.

Those who are concerned they may have the illness should contact their health care providers.

Consumers with questions regarding the recall can contact the JBS USA Consumer Hotline at 800-727-2333.
