BOUNTIFUL, Utah – Police confirmed Tuesday that an attempted abduction reported to them outside South Davis Junior High was a fake.
A junior high school student said she was approached by a man who tried to grab her while she was crossing the street Monday afternoon. Bountiful City Police were present at the junior high school Tuesday for both parents’ and students’ peace of mind.

The discovery came just before 11 a.m. after having another conversation with the student who reported the attempted abduction. Police said there were too many inconsistencies with her story that just weren’t adding up. While authorities were speaking with her Tuesday to find answers, she reportedly admitted she made the incident up.
Police and school officials said they are glad to tell parents and students they are safe and there is not a predator.
“We appreciate the assistance of the media, Davis School District and the community with bringing this investigation to a swift conclusion,” according to a media statement from Bountiful City Police.
After the student made the report, the district and the police department wasted no time working together to beef up security not only at South Davis Junior High, but also the surrounding schools.
“As the investigation proceeded, we had people working around the clock,” said BCPD Lt. Dave Edwards. “The media attention began to bring information forward. Members of the community (saw) this on both social media and on television. We were able to then have another interview with this complainant and determined it was a false report.
The student could face misdemeanor charges for false reporting, Edwards said.
