HERRIMAN, Utah – A motorcyclist was transported by helicopter to the hospital after he crashed just after midnight Friday.
The incident happened in the area of 5630 West and Roe Deer lane.
Lt. Cody Stromberg, with Herriman Police Department, said the man had driven into a wall at an apartment complex. No other vehicles or people were involved.
“The motorcycle had impacted that wall at a pretty significant rate of speed,” Stromberg said. “… (He) suffered some fairly significant head trauma.”
Witnesses told police the man had recently purchased the motorcycle and appeared to be showing off for his friends.
Officials said the 34-year-old man wasn’t wearing a helmet.
“Even with the speed, had he been wearing a helmet, we’d probably be having a very different conversation,” Stromberg said. “Actually, we probably wouldn’t be having a conversation at all.”
Police are investigating if alcohol impairment was a factor in the crash. The man’s identity has not yet been released.
