MILLCREEK, Utah – One person was killed after an officer-involved critical incident in Millcreek, according to Sgt. Melody Gray with the Unified Police Department.
Gray said officers responded to a reported case of domestic violence between a man and his elderly mother in the area of 2500 East and 3300 South on Monday.
When officers arrived they said they found the man, Marc Neal, 56, with a gun.
Authorities said responding officers tried for several minutes to de-escalate the situation and convince Neal to put down the firearm before shots were fired.
Neal was killed in the incident and police said all officers and the mother were not injured.
The West Valley City Police Department protocol team is investigating, Gray said.
Six UPD officers were placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
“This protocol is automatic whenever an officer is involved in a critical incident such as a shooting,” according to a statement from the Unified Police Department. ”
