SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Gov. Spencer Cox on Thursday announced adults ages 65 – 69 are now eligible to received the COVID-19 vaccine.
The change is effective immediately, however, appointment availability will vary throughout the state.
To get more information on scheduling an appointment, go to coronavirus.utah.gov/vaccine.
Previously, the age of eligibility had been for those 70 and older.
Cox said 62% of Utah adults over the age of 70 have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 91% of the state’s long-term care facility residents are getting vaccinated.
Utahns with certain underlying medical conditions will become eligible to receive the vaccine beginning March 1.
Utah’s new COVID-19 cases counts, percent of positivity and hospitalizations are all decreasing, the governor said, noting that testing is the best way to identify positive cases so people can make efforts to stop transmitting the virus to others.
Go to Utah’s COVID-19 testing page to get more information on where to get tested and how to schedule an appointment.
Cox said that even though numbers are going down and vaccinations are going up, residents shouldn’t let up on mask wearing – especially in light of some of the variants that are being spread.
