Suspect in custody after allegedly kidnapping, sexually assaulting SLC woman in 1997

SALT LAKE CITY —A man involved in a sexual assault in 1997 in Salt Lake City is now in Custody in California according to the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, identified as 46-year-old, Jaime Calderon, had been listed in the National Crime Information Center database NCIC, a database used by law enforcement. So when he was arrested in California Wednesday, police notified the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Investigations Division.
The investigation began on April 7, 1997 when a woman was kidnapped at gunpoint at the Salt Lake City International Airport and sexually assaulted by a man she knew. According to Salt Lake City Police the assault happened at a an unknown location in Salt Lake City.
Police are in the process of extraditing Claderon back to Utah.
According to the release, “Since the investigation has been referred to the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office, no further information can be released. This case is being investigated by the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Special Victims Unit. This squad of highly trained detectives is responsible for investigating all types of sex crimes and sex-related crimes against children.”
