SALT LAKE CITY — Police have released the names of the two people who died in a crash Thursday morning on Redwood Road.

The victims were identified Tuesday as 51-year-old Glenn Maltby and 44-year-old Sean Gonzales.

The incident happened just before 7:30 a.m. between a passenger van and Salt Lake City garbage truck in the area of 980 South Redwood Road.

Witnesses told police the van was traveling northbound when, for unknown reasons, it veered into southbound lanes and collided head-on with the truck.

“Officers arrived and located two victims, a driver and passenger, inside the van. Officers and paramedics attempted life-saving efforts, but both individuals died on scene,” read a press release from the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Police said the driver of the garbage truck was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Both directions of Redwood Road were closed between Indiana Avenue and 1050 South for several hours Thursday while emergency crews were on scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
