HEBER CITY, Utah — A groundbreaking ceremony was held Saturday for the Heber Valley Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Church President Russell M. Nelson presided at the event.
“Today, we will begin the work by breaking ground for a temple in this unique and wonderful valley,” President Nelson said in his opening remarks. “I love you all and whole-heartedly rejoice with you.”
The temple — which will be the first in Wasatch County — was announced by President Nelson during the last session of general conference in October 2021.
Officials say it will be constructed on a 17.9-acre site southeast of 1400 East Center Street in Heber City. It will be three stories tall and cover approximately 88,000 square feet.
The Heber Valley Utah Temple marks the 28th temple in the state, joining locations — either announced, under construction or renovation, or in operation — in Bountiful, Brigham City, Cedar City, Deseret Peak, Draper, Ephraim, Jordan River, Layton, Lindon, Logan, Manti, Monticello, Mount Timpagonos, Ogden, Oquirrh Mountain, Orem, Payson, Provo City Center, Provo, Red Cliffs, Salt Lake, Saratoga Springs, Smithfield, St. George, Syracuse, Taylorsville and Vernal.
Following the announcement of 18 new temples in the 192nd semiannual general conference, the Church now has 300 temples across the world.
