DRAPER, Utah — Local organization, Thanksgiving Heroes, started off with a goal to feed 10 families their first year. Instead, they fed 755 families thanks to generous donors.
With the cost of groceries on the rise, founder Rob Adams said they plan to feed even more families this year.
“The cost has gone up about 20% for groceries, and we are all feeling that. I know that it’s created a greater need here in our community,” Adams said. “Our goal is to feed 3,000 families this year.”
Know of any families in need this Thanksgiving?

With one more week to go, the organization still has 500 open spots to fill. They are hoping the community nominates families in need through their website in the next couple of days.
“We have to get 500 more families in need that could use this food,” Adams said. “It’s about creating hope, and it’s about making sure that families feel loved, and they feel served and significant because they are.”
Last year, Beckie Guymon was anonymously nominated to receive a box of food from Thanksgiving Heroes. She said it was a touching experience she would never forget.
“We had received a text message saying they had a Thanksgiving meal for me and my family, and it was amazing to see these volunteers coming to our doorstep,” she said.
The Schiffman family volunteered to deliver food last year. They too had a life-changing experience and were grateful for the opportunity to serve.
“The most fulfilling part of it was delivering the food,” Garrett Schiffman said. “My wife, kids and I drove up to the Ogden area to drop off the meals, and it was an amazing experience.”
If you are interested in volunteering, donating, or nominating a family, visit the organization’s website.
They hope to have all nominations by Wednesday, Nov. 16, and will deliver the meals by Saturday, Nov. 19.
