Roy Woman Speaks About Escaping Attacker, Helping Police Make Arrest  

ROY, Utah – A Weber County woman was able to break free after she said a man grabbed her from behind and tried to drag her into the bushes. She and her husband also helped police find the man and make an arrest.

Having moved to Utah only a few months ago, the woman, who did not want to be identified, said the Beehive State seemed like a very nice place to live. She still feels that way, despite what happened to her Saturday evening. She was walking along a trail at West Park when she said a man approached her.

“Some one grabbed me,” she said. “Pulled me tight and put his hand on my mouth. I was scared.”

What she did next helped her quickly break free.

“I just screamed,” she said. “‘Help me! Help me! And then he ran away.”

While many people would have simply called 911, the woman said she and her husband wanted to make sure the accused attacker would be found by police.

“We tried looking for him,” she said.

The couple drove around the corner, making their way to Midland Elementary School where they spotted a man police later identified as 21-year-old Jorge Nieto.

In cellphone video, the woman’s husband asked for directions to try and get Nieto to come closer. Instead, he covered his face and walked away. The video, however, was enough to help police identify Nieto and make an arrest.

According to an arrest affidavit, Nieto told detectives he’d been drinking, and grabbed the woman in a moment of weakness.

“It’s so scary,” the woman said of the attack. “I can’t describe it in words, and I wish this (would not) happen with anybody.”
