Severe Weather Across the State Sunday, Powder Mountain Highway Closure Monday

UTAH – Motorists got stuck between two avalanches Sunday, as avalanche danger was reported as high for Utah’s northern mountains.
One person was rescued from a car in North Ogden, but no one was injured.
Weber County officials say the avalanche happened around 1:30 p.m. on the Liberty side of the North Ogden Divide.
The road is now covered in five feet of snow and debris, and is expected to re-open Tuesday.
Officials recommend using Ogden Canyon as an alternate route to Nordic Valley.
Monday morning, Powder Mountain Highway will be closed for a time to do avalanche prevention work, and UDOT says S-R 158 will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. and traffic will not be allowed past milepost 8.
Slick roads caused a multi-car slide-off in Murray Sunday afternoon. About 10 cars were involved, and no one was seriously hurt.
Utah Highway Patrol tells us, as of early Sunday, there were 70 crashes statewide. 28 of those in Davis, Salt Lake and Utah Counties.
Dangerous driving conditions were also reported in Parley’s Canyon Sunday. You can see the snow falling and accumulating on the road in video shared with us from KSL Newsradio.
Troopers tell us they are preparing for a possible slick commute Monday morning. Drive slowly and give yourself plenty of time and space to get to where you are going.
