OGDEN, Utah – One person has been killed and another critically injured after a shooting in Weber County. Officials believe the victims could be brothers. They said the shooting was not a random attack.
The shooting happened Monday evening near a home at 860 West Lake Street in Ogden, in an neighborhood just off Interstate 15 at the Pennsylvania Avenue exit. Police responded to the home about 5:35 p.m. and found two victims inside.
Investigators were trying to determine exactly what happened.
“Officers responded and found two victims inside the house – one deceased and one is in critical condition,” said Lt. Clint Christensen with the Ogden Police Department.
Officials said there were no suspects in custody, but they did have possible leads on one or two people. They did not believe there was a danger to the general public.
“No suspect description right now. We have a possible lead on one or two people, but they are outstanding right now,” said Lt. Christensen.
Family at the scene told KSL TV that the victim who was fatally shot was a 16-year-old boy. They said the surviving brother was 22-year-old Eric Johnson.
The victim’s aunt, Phyllis Lewis, said Eric Johnson was receiving medical treatment at McKayDee Hospital.
“He’s got two shots in his chest, one in his leg (and) one in his arm,” she said. “You just have to try not to make sense of it because, I mean, it doesn’t make sense.”
The motive was not yet known. Officials said they had no suspect description.
Police said the homicide task force is responding. They were canvassing the area looking for witnesses or any security cameras that could aid in the investigation.
Anyone with information about the shooting should contact the police department.
