Youth Football League Looking For Options After Equipment Stolen

Apr 26, 2019, 2:30 PM | Updated: 7:06 pm

PROVO, Utah – The Provo Youth Football League is working to find a solution after someone stole a trailer holding $25,000 worth of football equipment.

The theft, captured on video, happened at approximately 2 a.m. Wednesday across the street from Provo High School.

In the video, a dark-colored Chevy Tahoe can be seen pulling in front of the trailer. Someone exits the vehicle’s passenger side, hooks the trailer to the Tahoe, and then drives away.

Officials with the league noticed it was missing Thursday and called police.

Inside the trailer was 200 football helmets, 200 shoulder pads and 40 game pants, numerous footballs and other equipment that’s taken the youth league four years to build up from donations and purchases.

Now without the equipment, they are left in a bind — and practice starts in July.

“We’ve started a GoFundMe to try and raise funds,” said PYF President Garrett Deucher. “… It’s going to be about $25,000 to recoup those losses.”

Deucher added that the Provo High School area has a lot of minority and single-parent families.

“We scholarship a lot of kids,” he said.

The league is working with the Provo Police Department, checking Craigslist and KSL Classifieds for anyone trying to move equipment. As far as the trailer, police said an identifiable part is evidence of a sticker in the shape of a crown that was removed.

Police said in the past two weeks they’ve had about 10 trailers stolen in Provo, and they want to remind the public to put a lock on the hitch, the tire or both.

A gofundme* account has been set up to help replace the stolen equipment.
