Dedication Ceremony Held Naming Vet Center After Maj. Brent Taylor

OGDEN, Utah – A dedication ceremony was held Monday renaming the North Ogden Vet Center Outstation after Maj. Brent Taylor.
The decision to rename the center was made by lawmakers during the last legislative session. The ceremony came seven months after the former North Ogden mayor’s death.
Maj. Taylor served as a dedicated member of the Army National Guard and was killed while in Afghanistan during an apparent insider attack.
There wasn’t an empty seat at the official ceremony, where Americans came to honor not only a hero to the state, but to the country.
Brent Taylor’s wife, Jennie, and their children led the Pledge of Allegiance at the ceremony. She said the dedication was a true honor.
“It means everything,” she said. “It means he gets to live on. It means a piece of him gets to live on.”
She said hopefully other people who never met her husband will be inspired by his story and his legacy of leadership and service.
“That really is what makes America great,” she said. “It’s not his legacy. He didn’t start it. He’s just carrying it forth from the generations before him.”
“To have a resource available to everyone who served,” Jennie Taylor added, “and then putting my husband’s name on it, is incredible humbling.”
The Maj. Taylor Vet Center is one of 300 in the United States, and one of five in the state of Utah. Services at the center are free for active duty veterans, so they can get the help they need and the help Maj. Taylor would want for them.
