FIRE WATCH: Three Wildfires Burning In Central Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Three new fires sparked Sunday in the central area of the state, all of which are near Juab or Millard counties.
Meadow Creek Fire
The most visible of the three is the Meadow Creek Fire, which has burned approximately 1,200 acres outside Fillmore near I-15. It is currently zero percent contained.
At least 100 firefighters were combating the blaze at one point. Crews have been battling the wildfire all night, and fresh crews will take over Monday morning.
Luckily, no homes are threatened and there are no evacuations in place. However, the dry conditions are a concern, authorities said.
“Fire season has been really delayed this year,” said Kourtney Bradshaw, U.S. National Forest spokesperson. “We haven’t had the really big fires earlier in the season. It’s just happened a little bit late.”
The Meadow Creek Fire was sparked by lightning on private property outside the Meadow Cemetery. The flames then crossed onto BLM land before burning onto National Forest land.
Officials said the fire is threatening the Meadow community watershed.
Goat Canyon Fire
The Goat Canyon Fire is burning between Nephi and Scipio — not far from the Meadow Creek Fire.
Officials said the wildfire has burned approximately 1,600 acres and is 40% contained. Twenty-four engines are on the ground fighting the fire along with planes and helicopters in the air.
Fortunately, no buildings are threatened.
The Goat Canyon Fire was also caused by lightning. Authorities are expecting another crew to arrive sometime Monday morning.
Clay Fire
Crews are clearing up after the Clay Fire, which burned about four miles south of Oak City.
Firefighters were able to stop the wildfire at 45 acres. The cause has not yet been determined.
