Traffic Will Be Restricted In Little Cottonwood Canyon Through November For Mudslide Repairs

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Drivers who regularly travel through Little Cottonwood Canyon should be prepared for delays through Thanksgiving, officials said.
According to the Utah Department of Transportation, crews will begin making mudslide repairs on state Route 210 in the canyon beginning Oct. 7. The highway will be reduced to one lane and flaggers will control traffic both up and down the canyon.
The restrictions will be in place Monday – Friday from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. through Thanksgiving, according to a UDOT statement.
“Drivers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes while they wait for traffic to pass,” the statement reads.
Wide loads that are larger than 11 feet are restricted, and drivers should contact the project hotline at 855-663-6800 to coordinate access.
“As part of this project, crews will remove large amounts of debris, rocks and mud from along the road, and repair adjacent slopes,” according to UDOT. “In addition, they will clear out and repair or replace ditches and culverts, and install three new five-foot-diameter concrete pipe culverts to help channel water under the road. Crews will also replace various smaller features damaged in the slides such as signs and guardrail.”
