SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah Highway Patrol troopers have asked Utah drivers to slow down, watch for emergency lights and move over for emergency personnel as a winter storm moves into the state.

In 2019, 33 UHP patrol vehicles were hit and troopers said those crashes coincided with heavy storms like this one, which is expected to bring winter driving conditions to roads across Utah.

“We can’t stress it enough, please slow down and give room for emergency vehicles,” troopers said in a tweet.

Eleven of the 33 crashes occurred during Thanksgiving weekend when a winter storm slammed Utah. Over 270 crashes were reported the Monday after Thanksgiving.

The KSL Weather team expects northern and central valleys to see four to eight inches of snow while benches and other areas could see up to 12 inches by the end of the storm.
