Utah Mother Of Four Killed In Sanpete County Rollover Crash, Father Hospitalized

FAIRVIEW, Utah – A Utah mother of four was killed and her husband was hospitalized after a rollover crash in Sanpete County on U.S. Highway 89.

“It’s going to be a hard loss for them,” said Val Morris from the lobby of Utah Valley Hospital, where his younger brother, Robert Morris, was in surgery. “It’s going to be a big loss for all of them.”

Before arriving at the hospital or seeing the damage, Val Morris and his other brother, Bill Morris, knew it was serious. “When they tell me someone’s being life-flighted, it’s pretty bad,” Bill Morris said.

Only a day has gone by since Robert Morris and his wife, Evelyn, were heading to Mount Pleasant from Fairview in their Chevrolet Suburban on U.S. 89.

Evelyn Morris was driving when Utah Highway Patrol troopers said she hit a deer and ran off the road. The vehicle rolled several times. According to troopers, neither person was wearing a seatbelt.

“The doctor was in the room with the family and he was explaining to everyone that…they were not going to be able to revive her,” Val Morris said. Evelyn was taken off life support hours later on Tuesday morning.

Among the many family members by her side were her four children, ages 11 to 17.

“It’ll be difficult. Very difficult,” Bill Morris said.

Evelyn Morris had just been made manager at the grocery store where she worked and was on her way there to fill an order when the crash happened Monday. Friends and family described her as a selfless mother and friend.

“That’s who she is. She was an angel to everybody who knew her,” said family friend Gena Fowles. “I know that Evelyn’s up there being an angel now to her children.”

“She held their family together, that’s for sure,” Val Morris said.

Robert Morris has several broken bones, according to his family, including his hand, hip, pelvis and neck.

“He was in a lot of pain last night,” Val Morris said.

He said the pain of his brother losing his wife of 20 years was only beginning. Still, with the help of family and faith, they’re hopeful their brother and his family will overcome.

“Their belief in Christ,” Bill Morris said when asked what was getting the family through.

Val Morris, who lost his wife years ago to epilepsy, agreed, adding, “That’s what will get him through the next 30, 40 years, is our belief that we will be together again.”
