SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for areas along the Wasatch Front.

According to the NWS, the warning begins at midnight Tuesday and will last through noon.

A strong cold front is heading south toward northern Utah. KSL weather specialist Grant Weyman said along with the cooler temperatures, there will be strong winds overnight Monday and into Tuesday. The high temperature on Tuesday is expected to be 30 degrees cooler than on Labor Day.

For the northern Wasatch Front, east winds are forecast to be sustained at 25 – 35 mph, with gusts in excess of 60 mph. Locations near Farmington, Centerville and the mouth of Weber Canyon could see gusts of up to 75 mph.

In the Salt Lake Valley, wind gusts in excess of 60 mph are expected along the east bench ares from Parley’s Canyon through the Avenues. Lower wind speeds are expected for the central and western portions of the Salt Lake Valley and within the Tooele Valley.

“High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages,” according to the NWS. “Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.”

Authorities warn that the I-15 corridor between Salt Lake City and Layton, the Legacy Parkway, the U.S. Highway 89 corridor in Davis and Weber counties, and Foothill Drive are likely to see the most impact.

“Vehicles, especially high profile vehicles, can be difficult to control at times in high winds,” the NWS warns. “Motorists should takee extra caution, especially while crossing bridges, overpasses, and unsheltered areas.”
