Search Continues For Missing Hiker In Weber County

OGDEN, Utah — Searchers combed the mountains east of North Ogden Saturday through wet conditions as efforts continued to find a missing woman.

Shelby Campbell, 29, was last seen on Sept. 8, when she left that morning for a hike.

“You know, she escaped up there just to kind of clear her mind and kind of get away from all the chaos,” boyfriend Andre Erebia said. “She messaged me at about 8:00 a.m., telling me she was getting to the parking lot and she’d talk to me later, and I told her be careful. A couple hours later, I just got a thumbs-up emoji, and that was the last contact or conversation we had.”

Her car later turned up at the South Skyline Trailhead on North Ogden Canyon Road, but there have been no other signs of Campbell, despite repeated searching by Weber County Sheriff’s deputies, family and volunteers.

The Facebook group, “Help Bring Shelby Home,” said “all evidence has been looked at and all signs point to her being on that mountain.”

Erebia said the family has been heartened by a large showing of community support.

“It’s amazing,” Erebia said. “We can’t thank them enough. It restored our faith in humanity again. Just with everything that’s going on this year and with all the current events, it’s amazing to see people rally around this, and they don’t even know her.”

On Friday night, dozens gathered at McGriff Park for a “flashlight vigil” to offer their support for Shelby and the search efforts to find her.

Family members and friends shared memories and stories about their loved one, who they said was incredibly fun and had a big heart.

“I know that Shelby is just so appreciative of what’s happening and how loved she is,” one of her friends told the group. “I know that I’m not going to stop, and I know that nobody here is going to stop until she comes home.”

Friends of Campbell have encouraged anyone with information to contact the Weber County Sheriff’s Office at 801-629-8221.
