CEDAR CITY, Utah – An AMBER Alert has been canceled after police in Southern Utah said a 4-month-old infant was taken in a non-custodial abduction in Cedar City.

The infant was found unharmed and safe after he and the suspect were located and detained at the Denver International Airport on Saturday afternoon.

According to a press release from the Cedar City Police Department, a young mother called dispatch around 10 p.m. Friday saying her three children – ages 5, 1, and 4 months – had not returned from the babysitter’s home.

Officials identified the babysitter as 31-year-old Emily Marissa Luciano.

The mother then agreed to let the children stay over at the babysitter’s home, understanding that they would be returned the next morning. But the morning came and the children had not come home.

“Mrs. Luciano continued to provide excuses to the mother about the delay in returning her children,” read the press release. “It was later discovered that Mrs. Luciano dropped the five and one-year old children with a third-party and then left town and traveled, with the four-month old infant to the Denver Colorado area.”

Police said the mother was not aware of the incident and did not give Luciano permission to take the infant.

The older children were eventually found unharmed and safely returned to their mother, but the 4-month-old – identified as Peyton Everett Caraballo-Winston – was still missing and an AMBER Alert was issued.

“Investigating officers were able to communicate through text message and telephone conversation with Mrs. Luciano; however, she consistently provided deceitful and inconsistent statements to officers and was not cooperative with the investigation,” the press release continued.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and FBI agents were called in to help with the investigation.

Officials said Luciano was in FBI custody “awaiting further legal proceedings,” while arrangements were being made to reunite the infant with his mother.
